The Dark Is Beautiful Campaign started in 2009 by a Chennai-based NGO called Women of Worth. I began supporting it in 2013. And we have seen big and small impacts of the campaign since then. In its 10th year, we decided to make a music video intended to change at least the narrative around colourism to a more holistic celebration of diversity. I decided to collaborate with Mahesh Mathai, ad filmmaker and Ankur Tewari, music composer/musician and came up with 'India's Got Colour'. After all, we are 1.3 billion people, and have that many shades of skin tones!
