Turtles can fly

  • July 1, 2005

As you can see I have actually started enjoying the blog as it’s truly a dialogue and not just a one sided sharing. Just saw a film called “Turtles can fly” made by an Iranian director, Bahman Ghobadi in 2004.It’s set in a refugee camp on the border between Iraq and Turkey just before the American invasion on Iraq in 2003.

It is really about the children, who despite the terrible living conditions are inventive enough to be true survivors and even have room for humour in their lives. It is an extremely sensitive film where these children who are not actors but are so real that the film seems like one is peeking into their life without even being aware of it. It’s an absolute must see. So if any of you finds it,please do watch it. I can assure you that after watching the film, something in you will not be the same.

I am seeing many other wonderful films as part of the Asian Film Festival called ‘Osian Cinefan’ that’s currently going on right opposite my house.
